Bo’s ability to love is, and will always be, truly endless. Always caring and worrying about others, but his love for family had no limits and was above all else. Bo’s motto was “Family First”. He wore that as a badge of honor. In a world where showing love for your family isn’t respected enough, Bo stood tall and proud yelling for all to hear that he loved his family. “Family First”. Family above all else.
Given the choice of being with his family or any other option, Bo chose family every time. It didn’t matter to Bo what we were doing, just as long as we would be together as a family. Just as happy being at home as he was vacationing in Aruba. Together was all that mattered. Ask Bo what he wanted to do for the weekend or where we should go on our next vacation, his answer was always the same. ‘Doesn’t matter, as long as we are together as a family’. He said that from the moment he could talk, and he meant it. Every word. Every time.
Bo was not impressed by things, nor did he ask for stuff. To Bo, your heart was what mattered. How you loved, not what you had was the measure of the man. And Bo was beyond measure. When Bo was little, and we would ask what he wanted for his birthday or Christmas or any other holiday, Bo would simply say, ‘I don’t need anything. I just want to be together as a family.’ Powerful words from a beautiful man.
To hear Bo laugh was amazing. His happiness was genuine and his laugh was infectious. He didn’t set out to make others laugh, but that’s what always happened. Bo never wanted to waste time being upset, holding grudges, or dwell on past problems. If he needed to do something that he didn’t want to do, like go to work, do school work or chores at home, rather than grunting through it, he would find a way to make it fun. Find a way to get some entertainment or happiness out of it. Bo knew how to make every moment matter and he viewed things differently than most. If you asked him if the glass of water was half full or half empty, he would say, ‘who cares, let’s enjoy the water!’
Bo's passions were numerous. Family, friends, and helping others were always at the top of this list. Like many little boys, Bo was interested in our armed forces. Not the typical playing army interest, but the vital purpose they serve. Protecting our country. He learned of the commitment and sacrifice it took to be in the military from 'Pa', his grandfather. Exciting stories of success, along with struggle, pain, and loss.
Bo soon learned of the Wounded Warrior Project and had an immediate desire to support our veterans. And support he did. So we continue supporting WWP by donating all net proceeds from the Live Live Bo apparel.
Bo was also passionate about fitness. He applied his same life philosophy to working out: if you want results, put in the work. Though the 'work' wasn't really work to Bo, it was more fun. Set goals, have a plan, be consistent, push yourself, measure progress, see the gains. Work hard, play hard, work harder, enjoy more.
